One of these rules was in effect during the Philadelphia Phillies game on Friday afternoon.

Robles attempted to swing on the fourth pitch, but he missed the ball and made contact with J.T. Realmuto's back.

The bat of Robles had no effect on Realmuto, who hit Jean Segura with a pinpoint strike. Garca then ran for third, and Alec Bohm was able to tag him for the game's winning run.

The umpires, who decided to keep both teams on the field, sent Garca back to second base. It was as if the play we had just witnessed had never happened.

Why? Because the umpires determined that Robel's follow-through accidentally struck Realmuto

According to the rulebook, in such a case, "it shall be called a strike only, but the ball shall be dead, and no runner shall advance on the play."
