Eileen Ryan, a veteran actress and the matriarch of a Hollywood family that includes actor Sean Penn, died on Sunday at her home.

Ryan has appeared in over 60 television shows and films over the course of her career, including roles in genre films such as 2002's "Eight Legged Freaks."

According to the statement, Ryan met her late husband, late director Leo Penn, in 1957 in New York City during rehearsals for "The Iceman Cometh."

The couple moved in together within a week of meeting and married a few months later, according to the statement. Leo Penn died in 1998, after a 41-year marriage.
