CNN host Don Lemon announced his departure from his prime-time news programme on Friday, after more than eight years with the network.

Lemon, who had been saying goodbye to "Don Lemon Tonight" since 2014, left the CNN show before his debut as a co-host.

The unnamed show, which will air in the current "New Day" time slot from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST, will feature Lemon as well as co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.

CNN announced that "New Day" anchors John Berman and Brianna Keilar will remain on the show until the show's debut.

Lemon reflected on his show, telling viewers that it was "not goodbye, but it is certainly the end of an era."
